Prepare

Questions:

  1. Read 1 Peter 1:1-2 throughout the rest of this week. As an encouragement to family worship and personal heart preparation, use the questions that follow:
  2. What does Peter title himself? What is an apostle? Consider what he says of himself in a verse like 5:1 that's distinct from a typical Christian. What does Peter's apostleship imply about the grace of Christ towards him? Towards us?
  3. How does Peter title his audience? What does it mean that they are exiles? What comfort should come from their being God's elect?
  4. In 1 Peter 1:2a, Peter addresses several particulars related to the identity of these Christians as elect exiles. I count four particulars. What are they? What is the origin of our election? When is it grace applied? What's the purpose of it? And what peace flows from it's application? How would these gracious truths bring hope and help to hurting believers? Do also note the Trinitarian formula.
  5. Peter ends the opening with a prayer, 1:2b. What is it? What's its purpose? How would grace and peace help these Christians live for Jesus under the threat of persecution?
