About

Call to worship: Psalm 19

Text: Matthew 11:25-30

Summary:

Jesus offers a gentle and kind heart for those the world despises, those with the wisdom to trust beyond sight and see the Father speaking. Finding that in Jesus we see the Father, we approach Scripture as more than history, more than failure, more than unattainable perfection. We approach it with a vision of God working, renewing and loving his people.

Questions to Consider:

  1. What are "these things" Jesus refers to in v. 25? Why is God's hiding and revealing of them cause for thanks? How do Jesus' words in v.26 help you grasp his words in v.25?
  2. Consider the attributes of God. What is he like? How does this affect the way you respond to Him? How does Jesus communicate the nature of the Father? What relation is there between the heart of God, and the heart of Jesus?
  3. Who are those who "labor and are heavy laden"? What is the nature of the rest God offers them? Compare and consider the words of Jeremiah 6:1-21
  4. What is the "yoke" Jesus offers? Why would he describe it as easy? When you consider the call to follow Christ, do you think it a light burden?
  5. How should we read the story of Abraham's family as Christians? How should we approach the Mosaic covenant? What principles should guide our study of the word of God? How should we disciple one another towards the goal of maturity and spiritual fruit?
